TTS Hires Rivers as Next Community Development Manager

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports (TTS) announced Tuesday the addition of Josh Rivers as the next Director of Community Development.

Rivers comes to TTS from his job as an assistant manager at the Bryant Conference Center, where he served for the past 10 years.

“Josh’s contributions as a member of the TTS Board of Directors as well as the working relationship he and TTS have established over time at the Bryant Conference Center will stand him and TTS in good stead in this position at future,” said Don Staley, President and CEO of TTS. “He brings a depth of knowledge and experience in the hospitality industry that will greatly benefit West Alabama.”

TTS says Rivers will take on the responsibilities of longtime employee Bill Buchanan, who died in December at the age of 67.

“I am honored to join the TTS family, and appreciate the trust and support of Don and his team. I am thrilled to share our community’s story with our residents as well as our visitors,” said Rivers. “You can never replace Bill Buchanan, but I hope to create a lasting impact in the special way he did.”

Staley said Rivers, in his new role, will be expected to develop relationships with local tourism service providers and stakeholders, serve as an advocate for the organization and the industry, and educate locals and visitors about the assets that the region has to offer.

“While Josh has a lot of shoes to fill with the passing of longtime TTS family member Bill Buchanan, we know Josh will honor Bill by continuing the many projects he was passionate about,” Staley said.

Along with his many roles over the years at the Bryant Conference Center, Rivers has served on the TTS board since 2018, having most recently served as the board’s chairman.

Rivers attended the University of South Carolina, in addition to his graduate studies at the University of Alabama. He and his wife Litsa have two children: Larkin and Jackson.
