Snohomish County has released a draft Affordable Housing and Community Development Plan for the Snohomish County Urban County Consortium that proposes to spend more than $6 million in federal grants to improve housing options and working environments. lives of people in need.
The draft 2022 annual action plan is available for review and comments until April 22. A virtual public hearing is scheduled for April 7.
The plan includes spending more than $6 million in federal grants, including: $3,261,716 for affordable housing; $1,152,824 for improving public facilities and infrastructure; $729,120 for service programs; and $866,314 for grant planning and administration.
Activities will primarily benefit low- and middle-income people and neighborhoods. According to a county press release, the proposed projects will help the county and the consortium achieve their goals of maintaining and expanding affordable housing options for individuals and families. They also include the improvement of the water system and sidewalks and the acquisition of a Rural Tender fire truck, two home repair programs, the construction of affordable housing and various services for the homeless, the elderly , victims of domestic violence and people with disabilities.
Funding recommendations for projects were made by a Technical Advisory Committee and a Policy Advisory Board. Projects selected for funding are sponsored by cities, towns, non-profit organizations and public bodies.
The Action Plan Project is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for receiving a grant under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG).
