Infrastructure development: an important means of community development – Panorama

Another important program was implemented in Tsovak. Another photovoltaic solar station has been installed, this time on the roof of the Maison de la Culture. The operation of the plant with an installed capacity of 6.9 kW will supply the building with electricity from solar energy. In other words, the efficiency of using electricity will increase, while the cost paid for it will be reduced, Viva-MTS said in a press release on Monday.

For this village in the community of Vardenis in the province of Gegharkunik, the introduction of new technologies is important in terms of economic, environmental and infrastructural development. The funds saved will be spent on solving other problems in the village, and there will be no need for forced idleness due to the harsh winter. Moreover, the administrative part of the village is located at the same address. The normal functioning of the House of Culture is important for any colony cut off from the capital.

Viva-MTS Managing Director Ralph Yirikian, FPWC Director Ruben Khachatryan, Vardenis Mayor Aharon Khachatryan, Project Coordinator Martin Maralchyan and villagers participated in the operation of the solar PV station.

“We will have a big advantage, once we learn to understand nature and appreciate the resources in our possession, and start to consume them consciously and in a coordinated way. Our country has a great chance to use the solar energy. In the age of technologies, not using them would be a missed opportunity, especially when dealing with remote villages, where harsh winter conditions are common. Therefore, even the seemingly minor program implemented in these settlements is justified from an economic point of view. I am happy to report that another problem has been solved in this remote village. The smallest problem becomes huge if not solved in time and requires efforts redoubled to be solved. At the heart of our program is the attempt to be useful and to avoid damage to nature while using modern technologies. We need it mainly for generations to come, ” said Ralph Yirikian, general manager of Viva-MTS.

With the importance of community development in mind, Viva-MTS and the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Properties (FPWC) have implemented several projects in Tsovak over the past 5 years. Thanks to the support of partners, the old heating methods have not been used in the village kindergarten for more than a year. The 20.4 kW photovoltaic solar station was installed here during a difficult period. Due to the pandemic, the supporters did not visit the kindergarten but did everything possible to complete the program so as not to paralyze the work of the kindergarten which works for 60 children.

The three gas boilers have been replaced by electric ones. The kindergarten building is heated with solar energy and operates all winter.

Summarizing the results of years of partnership in Tsovak, Viva-MTS and the FPWC are also considering programs to install outdoor lighting to save energy. After the collapse of the USSR, a new one was built in the village in place of the worn-out infrastructure. A total of 93 LED floodlights have been installed here and 3300 meters of road have been illuminated. Tsovak has been using the most efficient and longest lasting LED lamps for 5 years, using 80% less electricity.

With the introduction of new technologies, environmental projects have also been implemented in different regions of Armenia.
