Coronation extends relief to vulnerable communities on World Food Day


October 2021: On World Food Day on October 16, Coronation Fund managers reached out to FoodForward SA, as part of their ongoing Covid-19 relief efforts from the start of the pandemic.

The recently launched Household Food Security Program will provide nutritious food directly to food insecure households across South Africa, with a particular focus on malnourished children, pregnant and lactating women, orphans and other vulnerable children and community members.

“The event gave us the opportunity to connect with our long-time partner, Coronation, to demonstrate what we, as an organization, continue to strive towards to tackle widespread hunger in South Africa. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the immense contribution and support provided by Coronation ”, explains FoodForward SA Managing Director Andy Du Plessis.

The program will provide monthly food boxes made up of quality food and non-food surpluses, supplemented by purchased groceries to make the project affordable and sustainable.

“Our financial contribution since the start of the pandemic has significantly assisted FoodForward SA’s operational efforts to make meals available to over 700,000 people per day at a cost of 85c per meal. Our donation has enabled FoodForward SA to rapidly increase essential resources and infrastructure to alleviate the hunger facing vulnerable communities in our country and has helped scale up the new household food security program, ”said Wendy Bergsteedt , Head of Group Marketing at Coronation.

The program aims to tackle food insecurity while restoring human dignity, improve access to a wider variety of healthy foods in vulnerable communities, and help build healthier populations in communities across the country. low socio-economic level.
