Basic functions:
The Community Engagement Supervisor is an outward facing position serving as the field boots for the entire Habitat Charlotte Region (HCR) service area and is instrumental in leading community events. outreach to improve neighbor involvement as we seek to meet community needs. Your work leads to the creation of strategic goals for key neighborhoods, seeking opportunities to provide impact data for these projects as well as overall programming, and assisting in recruitment for programming.

Main responsibilities:
• Coordinate research efforts and resulting impact reports for community impact and programmatic impact
• Conduct surveys, focus groups, and property valuation surveys to help residents identify needs based on the Quality of Life Framework
• Oversee the development of community/neighborhood statistical profiles that identify support service needs (i.e. food or banking deserts) based on partners and community organizations identified by HFHI as essential to support the process and the neighborhood revitalization continuum
• Assist in the development and delivery of data for periodic research made possible by grant funds (i.e., data updates and reports for the research partnership with the Institute of Social Capital with the ‘UNC Charlotte)
• Coordinate and lead efforts in all aspects of community engagement
• Assist neighborhood associations in developing a recruitment plan to increase resident engagement and coalition partners to accomplish neighborhood strategic priorities and strengthen the community planning process
• Provide project support to AmeriCorps members as they connect with neighborhood leaders and other stakeholders in implementing action plans for the neighborhood, focusing on community-centric initiatives. residents
• Assist in organizing and leading community meetings and outreach events in partnership with building and organizational advancement and development as it relates to new property development by HCR
• Use mixed methods to facilitate resident engagement (i.e., training, one-on-one interviews, focus groups, small group meetings, information and listening sessions, and other techniques)
• Continue the development and growth of the Habitat Champions initiative to better involve UNHCR families in our efforts as well as increased engagement in their own neighborhoods
• Facilitate engagement trainings in partnership with the Homebuyer Education Supervisor for ongoing homeowner classes as well as homeowners association leadership trainings to assist in the development of future Boards of Directors
• Answer phone calls from neighbors and residents regarding our properties, owners and future developments to receive feedback, better educate the public on our role as a lender and inform future policy considerations
• Support recruitment efforts
• Support the Owner Services Manager in the creation of the Family Services Recruitment and Retention Plan and achieve stated goals with respect to information sessions, community contacts and community events, with due attention particular to the development of the Habitat Champions Initiative to help support these activities
• Coordinate and work collaboratively with the Homebuyer Education Supervisor and their direct reports to expand, update, develop and implement information sessions and attendance at community events in northern areas and southern UNHCR service areas
• Co-chair the Owners and Community Engagement Committee in partnership with the Family Support Supervisor
• Recruit new members who are willing to engage in meetings and help engage owners and communities
• Plan, prepare and execute bi-monthly meetings for the Neighborhood Revitalization Committee / Landlord and Community Engagement Committee
• Recruit grant applicants and oversee the review, approval or rejection, and distribution of grant funds
• Hire and manage AmeriCorps members who will support the above efforts and develop new initiatives and continued capacity for these initiatives

Training and skills:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Experience working with non-profit and/or community development organizations
• Highly developed interpersonal skills (communication and listening) with a demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams
• Experience in program development, project budgeting and grant management helpful
• Ability to create and produce results-based reports that document activities, events and meetings
• Able to multi-task and meet deadlines
• Results oriented
• Strong IT and technology skills, especially with Microsoft Suite
• Strengths in building trust, empowerment, collaboration and community engagement
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information
• A work style that is self-motivated, reflective, self-aware and adaptive and includes the ability to perform a variety of duties in a team environment with limited direct supervision

Physical requirements:
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, ability to walk on uneven ground, ability to stand most of the day or part of the day, ability to use a computer for up to 8 hours a day, ability to drive a motor vehicle, ability to work in extreme weather conditions as needed

Estimated engagement time:
40 hours/week – The position requires the ability to work nights and weekends as needed (usually in conjunction with neighborhood meetings and activities)
