Summary of position

The Community Engagement and Equity Coordinator plays an important role in planning community events, helping with administrative projects, and presenting useful information and resources to the community. The position is dual-role serving two offices and reports to the Dean of Students and the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

The Coordinator will support the broad Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DCI) efforts within William James College. The coordinator will manage program and event logistics, develop promotional material, collect data and coordinate campus partners for programs such as the Council for Inclusive Excellence, Racism Healing Workshops, Inclusive Perspectives, DCI signing events and other DCI related work in progress. They will work directly with student government and leaders of student organizations to collaborate and support student leadership. They will help manage the logistics for the Dean of Students programming and data coordination in the Academic Resource Center. This candidate should have some experience in student affairs, strong program management and written and oral communication skills, and knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion issues related to higher education. In addition, an understanding and appreciation of the theories of college student engagement, learning, and achievement, including the relationship between learning environments / climates and college outcomes.

The coordinator must show respect to all members of the college community in the performance of his duties; welcome and recognize the value of diversity, equity and inclusive excellence, and must have a demonstrated history of working effectively with multiple identities (race, creed, color, religion, national origins, age, gender, pregnancy , disability, veteran or military status, sexual orientation, gender identity or associative preferences). Must be able to make decisions and exercise a high level of autonomy, exercise independence of judgment and recognize the need for a high level of confidentiality.

Essential functions:

  • Help coordinate logistics for Dean of Students programming;
  • Search and enter vacancies and employer information into our online Career Link system;
  • Promote and support the student leadership initiatives of the ACES department, the college LEAD team and student organizations;
  • Create and manage the monthly newsletters (emails) of the Dean of Students;
  • Maintain, update and create information for the web pages managed by the office of the Dean of Students (this does not require the ability to create pages; it is content oriented);
  • Take notes at important student meetings such as LEAD team meetings or community town hall;
  • Promote the Dean’s programming of students by creating and sending flyers and emails for the event;
  • Assist with data collection and student feedback for the Academic Resource Center;
  • Develop and maintain an awareness program to work with student organizations;
  • Help coordinate our community service projects and online service resources;
  • Participate in administrative projects as needed;
  • Coordinate the implementation of DCI related programs, events and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of promotional material for events, staff events and coordinate the staffing schedule for events.
  • Manage DCI programs, including planning training sessions and campus events, managing communication with student facilitators, ensuring student facilitators and others involved have all the necessary materials and monitoring evaluation data.
  • Manage logistics for the Council for Inclusive Excellence, Racism Healing Workshops, Inclusive Perspectives, DCI Signing Events and other DCI work.
  • Guide the community to resources on DCI policies and procedures, as well as event management.
  • Support communications about DCI’s work, including creating event registration links, updating web pages, writing copies, and providing social media support.
  • Other assigned tasks.
  • This position will require a few evening hours during the semester and occasional work on the weekends.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and team building skills. Able to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others, while working independently.
  • Ability to resolve most issues and respond to all demands and requests related to the work area.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of directly related work experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Commitment to racial and social justice and equity, including a culturally humble approach to work
  • Experience working with graduate students, non-traditional students and / or students from marginalized populations
  • Experience of graduate student life, current knowledge of best practices and initiatives to support graduate students in higher education
  • Technical qualifications include a solid knowledge of MS Office, other office software such as Publisher / Photoshop, and experience with a content management system.
  • Interest and experience in the design and implementation of high quality activities, programs and services for students.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional attitude and strong customer service skills.
  • The candidate must be able to hold a job in the United States without college sponsorship.
