Buffalo Grove Announces New Communications and Community Engagement Service



The Village of Buffalo Grove recently launched a communications and community engagement department and simultaneously hired Molly Gillespie as director.

The new department will centralize village-wide communications, support all departments and identify opportunities to leverage community engagement.

“We are excited about this new department and how it will improve our services for Buffalo Grove residents and businesses,” said Village Manager Dane Bragg. “Ms. Gillespie’s unique combination of skills and knowledge makes her the ideal candidate to develop communications strategies and build key relationships to increase the village’s connection to the public and its partners.

Gillespie was tapped to lead the department after 12 years in public service, including eight years in progressive communications positions with the City of Elgin. She has been involved in a wide variety of public service projects and led several strategic communications campaigns.

According to village officials, Gillespie was instrumental in developing a brand and social media presence for Elgin, while maintaining public relations and overseeing marketing efforts. Her work in social media growth and engagement won her the Marguerite Henry Award for Communication/Technology in 2016.

Gillespie’s experience in communications and community engagement, specifically involving special events, municipal programs, weather events and emergencies, will be of great value to the Buffalo Grove community, officials said. responsible.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve Buffalo Grove and look forward to building relationships throughout the community,” Gillespie said. “I’m looking forward to getting started and building on the strong foundation that already exists with the village’s communication and engagement efforts.”

The Communications and Community Engagement program was approved as part of the 2022 budget, consisting of two full-time positions, including a director and a coordinator. The new department will oversee all communications, including press releases, e-newsletters, social media and newsletters, while exploring other opportunities for community engagement.

Gillespie holds a Bachelor of Science in Tourism from Colorado State University.

His starting salary will be $120,323.84.
