Volunteers from 32 businesses and organizations participate in Greater Lehigh Valley’s largest one-day volunteer effort.

Allentown, Pennsylvania June 23, 2022 – More than 500 energetic volunteers came together to carry out community service projects at 40 area nonprofits on the 29th United Way Day of Caring, presented by Crayola in partnership with the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley.

“Today is a great day to live, work and give in the Greater Lehigh Valley. You could feel the LIVE UNITED spirit in every corner of the community. I am grateful and inspired by the hundreds of people who rolled up their sleeves and invested their talent and energy in service to our community during Day of Caring,” said David Lewis, President of United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV).

United Way kicks off its annual campaign with Day of Caring, which is the largest one-day volunteer effort in the community.

“This is just the beginning. Day of Caring gives volunteers and donors the opportunity to see their impact in action. By working with United Way, we can accomplish so much more, and we encourage everyone to get involved and to help in any way we can,” said ASR Media Productions President Ashley Russo, who co-chairs the United Way campaign with her husband Dr. Joseph Russo as well as PPL President and CEO Vince Sorgi. and his wife Michelle.

In the Greater Lehigh Valley, 500 participants from 32 businesses and organizations contributed more than 2,800 hours of service, worth more than $78,500, to more than 50 Lehigh and Northampton and county nonprofit organizations . Some Day of Caring projects included:

  • Paint and Refresh Salvation Army Easton’s Body with Crayola
  • Organizing and Painting Community School Spaces at Central Elementary School Allentown with City Center Allentown
  • Renovations and cleaning at Sixth Street Shelter in Allentown with Dual Temp Company Inc.
  • Easton Neighborhood Center Homeless Facility Update with Martin Guitar Company

“Volunteers today need to know that together they have had a tremendous impact on our nonprofits and made a real difference to many people who rely on them,” said Karen Daly Smith, CEO from the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley.
