Clarksville, Tennessee – On October 1, 2021, the Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement at Austin Peay State University (APSU) and the Campus Sustainability Office merged into a new department called Community Engagement & Sustainability.
In 2014, the University opened what was previously the Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement to provide community service and service learning programs to APSU students. The center has grown considerably over the years, introducing the SOS Food Pantry, ENGAGE LLC, Living Green LLC and Alternative Break Trips.
The Sustainability Office previously reported to the physical factory and worked to promote campus-wide sustainability efforts and deliver green programs to students, such as the EcoGovs Project and the Great Green Idea competition.
The new department comes under the Student Affairs Division and will keep the programming of the two previous departments. Community Engagement & Sustainability will add a financial education extension to SOS Food Pantry called $ mart Money Center. The department’s offices are located at 322 Home Avenue, and its staff also oversee the University’s Victory Gardens, Outdoor Education Center, and Predators Youth Garden.
